2009 Season Shapping Up
Released: 04/06/2009
The 2009 Generals started their season with a few key losses due to ineligibility and injuries. “We started the season a bit concerned about our pitching staff. Due to eligibility issues we only have six full-time pitchers on this year’s club. These guys, in addition to our position player/pitchers, have done a great job so far this season. We are hoping to finish strong and advance to the A.I.I. tournament.” stated Coach Purvis. The Generals will be competing to earn the right to participate in the A.I.I. tournament, hosted by the University of Houston-Victoria, April 30 through May 3. The winner of this tournament qualifies to play in the NAIA national tournament.
Underclassmen Setting Example
Released: 04/06/2009
There are several freshman and sophomores that have made an impact to our program in a relatively short period of time. Jordan Marks has been the General’s starting second baseman for the past two seasons. He led the team in homeruns his freshman year (2008) and was named the team’s MVP for the 2008 season. This season he is on track to hit over .300 and lead the team in homeruns. Cody Laprarie has been the General’s starting center fielder and lead-off hitter for the past two seasons. He led the team during his freshman year in hits, runs, total bases, stolen bases, hit-by-pitch, at-bats, games played, games started, and fielding percentage. This season he is on track to lead the Generals in many of these same categories. Tid Hilger, in his first season with the team, has earned the role of playing third base for the Generals. He is currently hitting over .300 and has a chance of leading the team in several offensive categories. “We are expecting a lot of good things out of these players over their career here at LSUA. It is rewarding to see a player develop from a freshman into a senior,” stated Coach Purvis.
High Hopes for 2009 Season
Released: 2/2/2009
Following a productive inaugural season with a majority freshman team, Coach Purvis is very optimistic about the team’s second season. “We are very excited about the 2009 season. Our players gained a great deal of experience last year, and we feel that we recruited a number of quality new players for this season. We should have a good mix of experience and youth on this year’s team.” The Generals will be returning five starting position players and five pitchers from last year’s team. Starting position players returning include: Adam Tucker, Wes Hotard, Jordan Marks, Kaygan Jones, and Cody Laprarie. Pitchers returning include: John Bult, Tyler Price, Casey Henagan, Kenny Wilmore, and Jordan Marks. Top newcomers include: Aryo Fleming (RHP-Hinds CC), Lee Slaney (RHP-LSUE), Logan Lassienge (INF-LSUE), Joey Johnson (OF-LSUE), Austin Grant (INF/OF-Simpson HS), and Tid Hilger (INF/OF-Menard HS). The Generals will begin their 2009 season on the road with a weekend series versus LSU Shreveport on January 30 & 31. Their first home game will be versus Texas College on February 3.
